Out of Town Orchid Shows
The Jacksonville Orchid Society puts in exhibits at a variety of Orchid Society Shows in Florida. A JOS member takes the lead in installing the exhibit with the help of volunteers and plants provided by JOS members. Gainesville Orchid Society Show - October 2011
We took first place in Society exhibits, a grand slam for the year! We also won the best dendrobium in show (Helen Hoffman), best miniature in show (Margie Johnson) and best cypripedium (not sure, but we're guessing Eric Cavin)...plus lots of ribbons! We'll post pictures if you have 'em!
Volusia Orchid Society Show - May 2011
Eric and Ed Cavin won the AOL show trophy in the Volusia County show in May 2011.
Tallahassee Orchid Society Show - April 2011
Mike and Harriet Wright put in the JOS exhibit at the Tallahassee Orchid Society Show and won the AOS Show Trophy for the Exhibit. Numberous ribbons were received for individual plants. Plants on display were grown by Harriet and Mike Wright, Ben Moore, Helen Hoffman, James Arnold, Brian Esterak, David Knight, Alana Lowry, Margie Johnson, Marv Ragan and John Van Brocklin.
Gainesville Orchid Society Show - October 2010
We won first place in the Society Exhibit Category and a check for $50 for the exhibit we put in at the Gainesville Orchid Society Show. Members brought home about 30 ribbons.
Volusia County Orchid Society Show - May 2010
We won first place in the Society Exhibit Category for the JOS Exhibit Eric Cavin put in at the Volusia County Orchid Society Show with the help of John and Dorothy Van Brocklin, BJ Honkamp, and Linda
Schenholm. Helen Hoffman's Angraceum sesquipedale received trophies for Best Vandaceous and
Best Species. Ribbon winning plants in the exhibit came from Eric
Cavin, James Arnold, BJ Honkamp, Marv & Jan Ragan,
John Van Brocklin, and Mike & Harriet Wright with a total
of 5 First place, 8 Second and 3 Third. Marion Hilliard
and Linda Schenholm also contributed plants. Here's a picture in case you didn't get to see it in person!
Tallahassee Orchid Society Show - April 2010
We had lots of members enter plants into the JOS Exhibit Mike and Harriet Wright put in at the Tallahassee Orchid Society Show. Eric Cavin had two for Paph rothschildianum (outstanding paph and seedling blooming for 1st time). His Phal. lobbii was most outstanding miniature, John Van Brocklin’s Sarcoglottis sceptoides for most outstanding terrestrial, and Margie Johnson’s Dtps. Champion Lightening for most outstanding Doritis/Phal. Also contributing plants were Marv and Jan, Mike and Harriet, Helen Hoffman, Chuck Clouse, Mike Heinz, Alanna Lowry, and Diane Kenney. In all there were 18 blue ribbons, 7 reds and a couple of whites. Here's a list of all the ribbons and trophies won by JOS members and a picture in case you didn't get to see it in person!
